he had
poor posture
and empty pockets of prospects
to match

he had
bad teeth
to match
his bad habits
and 
bad manners

by instinct
children and pets
avoided him
he had
no one
and nothing
but his mother's
beautiful eyes
and
a thirst
for romantic affection

then
she came along
with poor posture
and poor prospects
and ALL the rest
just like him

yet
despite his weak ways
and weak will
and all the rest
in spite of everything
but his beautiful eyes
she decided
maybe
she could love him
anyway

she proposed love
which he rejected
since he said
she offered nothing
but her own mother's
beautiful
eyes
