so there was never
anybody else
constantly around
to show me that
like them
i was an idiot
and a selfish little asshole
too

of a single parent
too preoccupied
with himself
and his misogyny
and ESPN
to steer
this idiot
in another
direction

and the other parent
absent
too preoccupied
and distracted
with jesus
another kid
and no money
to care

and the grandparents
buying shit
to keep the kid
preoccupied
distracted
from them
so they
could pursue
their own
distractions

there was never
anybody else around
so i'll blame
who wasn't there
since it's a lot easier
blaming them
than blaming me
for what
i 
am
now
