all babies
aren't cute
and cuddly
wingless 
cooing cherubs
sucking on thumbs and tits

some
are ugly
bratty
twits
though it's nature's trick
for survival
to make them all
appear cute

and just because
you're bald
and chubby
and toothless
too
just because
you shit yourself
and cry a lot
it don't make you the same
as most other babies

see
it's the subtler things
that distinguish
one from another
making you
unlike
most other babies
who aren't nearly as selfish
obnoxious
arrogant 
stubborn
cowardly
and narcissistic
even as
you wail from your crib
we're all bald
chubby
toothless
and we all
cry 
a lot

this ugly baby
grown to adult
denying
its ugliness
exuding
self-confidence
an attractive force
a lullaby
against the utterly 
unattractive force
of its rank ignorance
or pretense

as i tell you this
you won't accept it
like the mother
of the ugly baby
you are
too invested
in your possession
as something 
positively unique & special
simply because
the ugly baby
is you
or yours
and nobody else's
made even worse
when it's your sole 
possession
