you can be rich
and dumb
you can be poor
and dumb
dumb
knowing no 
ethnic
socio-economic
boundaries

of the rich and poor
i'd warn you
it's the subtle annoyance
leading to madness
of the poor and dumb
always nipping at your ankles
instead of dropping bombs on your head
that you gotta beware of 
too

cause the poor
the spiritually poor
the one
with your ring
on her finger
the one
with your name
tattooed
on his arm
or the one
whose headstone
will bear
your same name
have far more to gain
from bleeding you
than the rich
ever will

the poor and dumb and vacant
sharing our surnames and toilet seats
understanding little
about give and take
being so goddamned dumb
all they understand
is 
take
take
take
being so goddamned dumb
as to never see
just how hard
always taking
is

dumb
too goddamned dumb
to understand
a cow
that gets milked
also
needs grass or hay or grain
for it to keep on
delivering
milk

dumb
so goddamned dumb
rather than feeding 
allowing it to starve
then devouring the remains
until nothing's left
no meat
no milk
no hide
just bones
and tears

then the wet faced
and milkless
poor and the dumb
begin to starve
as well
until it's time
for the poor and dumb
to go begging
for another one
to milk
and 
yet again
never 
feed

it's not supposed to be
a nice thing
to call people
people you know
poor and dumb
but once you've been milked
dry
and nearly starved to death
by the undeniably 
poor and dumb
then it makes sense
it almost feels like justice
to finally call it
what it is

and it's not
a moral indictment
of the selfishness
in the stupidity
of always taking
it's not an indictment
of being poor
it's an indictment
of the idiocy
of either rich or poor
that stifles
enlightenment
in the cause
for better survival
founded on
a marriage
to a better
morality
