Something Between

their kids
were long ago
grown
and gone
so they got themselves
a dog

now
that dog
just like them
is getting old
so they'll have to decide
what to do
once he's gone

they'll have to decide
at their age
if they've got enough
life left
for taking care
of another dog

hopefully so
cause without
another dog
there won't be 
much left
but their memories
in the years
remaining
between them
