Ruth Bader Ginsburg
I was driving home last night when it came on the radio: Ruth Bader Ginsburg was dead.
Normally I have the radio on classic rock. But lately I’ve been tired of the same old shit so I’d put it on the classical station. Okay. Maybe I wasn’t just tired. Maybe it’s just that, from time to time, I like feeling like more than than the base commoner I really am, and Classical 90.9 is a cheap and easy distraction from that fact.
Anyway, I was sitting at the light when the guy on the radio said it. It wasn’t a news break, it was just the DJ (or whatever the fuck a guy who plays the music on a classical station is called) that said Justice Ginsburg had died, and if I stayed tuned in the following hour, they’d be honoring her with some shit like Brahm’s Requiem. I got to thinking that’s the kinda pretentious shit they’d do on the uppity classical station.
I was too close to home to make it worthwhile to switch the station. But I wondered, if I went back to classic rock, would there be any mention of Justice Ginsburg by the DJ there? Probably not. We’re too dumb for that kinda stuff at 104.7 – Dayton’s Rock Station. But who knows. I coulda been wrong. And if so, I wonder what they might have played in her honor? What might have been on Justice Ruth’s classic rock playlist? Who might she have been a fan of? Black Sabbath? Or, as a more cultured person, maybe King Crimson. I’d loved to have switched over and heard the DJ on the rock station say, “In honor of the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, stayed tuned in the next hour for In the Court of the Crimson King.” Goddamn. That would have been swell and sorta apropos.
The light changed. I was close to home. It was Friday. I had a few cold ones to drink and other dumb shit to think about, so I almost forgot about these stupid thoughts about our late Justice until now.
So, before I forget again, RIP Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
And here’s one for ya from the proletariat………
I’ve wasted many, many hours listening to various classic rock stations throughout the country, and NEVER have they graced their airwaves with King Crimson.

i guess king crimson isn’t very radio friendly, as i’ve never heard them either.
